What I'm doing now
Updated 2026-07-28. A running log of the active work, so the site doesn't pretend it's finished.
Shipped 11 actors to the Apify Store in a week — Website to RAG Chunks, FX, page-change monitor, SEC EDGAR, arXiv, job-postings (ATS), recipe extractor, news/press monitor, dataset-drift QA, book metadata, and weather. All live-verified in the cloud. Publishing is rate-limited to 5/24h, so the rest trickle out as the window opens.
Rebuilt the deploy pipeline after Apify removed the source-upload REST endpoint. Now using apify-client with version/source-files. Also learned that the Apify CLI silently hangs on WSL2 over SSH because of the OS keyring. REST it is.
Wave 3 actors: a generic JSON-API normalizer, a domain/WHOIS lookup, and a citations scraper. Plus marketing — Reddit threads, a Show HN for EDGAR, and cross-posts. The cynix.dev blog is the public scratchpad for all of it.
Open questions
- Does the "pay-per-event, no subscription" model read as a feature or a liability to buyers?
- Which actor earns first? My bet is EDGAR (finance = highest willingness to pay).
- Should the blog lean technical (how-I-built-this) or outcome-first (what-you-can-ship)?
